Benefits of a Tiny Lawn

Benefits of a Tiny Lawn Your yard is one of the first things that visitors see when they get to your home.   It is one of the most important places in your home as a homeowner.   Many homeowners assume that the bigger the lawn, the better it is. But is it really essential to have a big lawn in your home? What are some of the advantages that you will enjoy as a tiny lawn owner? Small Budget and Bigger Impact Maintaining a large lawn is expensive, time-consuming, and even overwhelming. Any time when there is a need for maintenance, a homeowner with a big yard needs to have a clear plan and budget to get the lawn in place. With a small lawn, there is smaller square footage.   Even a small renovation will make a significant change in how it looks. You can easily change the look with a small budget and much less effort. Fewer Landscaping Needs Whether you own a big or small lawn, landscaping is one of the must-do activities to maintain the look of the lawn. When you have a tiny lawn, however, your work is significantly reduced. With a small lawn, you will need less fertilizer, pruning, and weed control.   A small yard will help you to be more creative with your landscaping options and let you experiment with things like planting ground cover plants or using gravel in place of grass. Intimate Appeal A tiny yard feels more intimate.   People are closer to each other, encouraging a feeling of inclusion, socialization and communication. Parties held in small lawn yards can be more enjoyable as guests can interact easier. Show Your Personality and Character With a small yard, it is easier for you to show your personality and character in the space. It is easier and less expensive than trying to infuse your tastes in a big yard. With a tiny yard, you can include various things that fit your personality and tastes to make the place more appealing and fun. Reduced Utility Bills There are inevitably some costs associated with maintaining a green and beautiful yard. You will have water and potentially even electricity bills that will go up with a larger yard. A tiny yard will keep these bills lower. You will save water if you have less lawn to irrigate.   A tiny yard will save you money. Conclusion Homeowners admire big lawns in their homes. But for a more functional, hassle-free solution, consider a small lawn.   In addition to ease of upkeep and maintenance costs, a tiny lawn at home can be just as appealing. Salary vs Happiness Is the average UK salary a marker of happiness

Salary vs Happiness â€" Is the average UK salary a marker of happiness Across the UK, salaries can vary significantly between roles, organisations, industry sectors and regions, along with the different types of jobs available within each of these areas.   This maze of employment creates different pay structures, so the average salaries from these will vary accordingly and will be different also. Average UK Salary Recruitment firm Michael Page have worked out the average UK salary by region based on the advertised salary in job adverts and at placement stage, and these averages are indicative of the mean average salary in each region. The salary you can expect in any region will depend on personal experience, job role and the industry you work in. But which regions are cashing the largest pay cheques  and which are lagging behind? Is London really the highest earning region, who comes out on top between the East and West Midlands, and how does Scotland  measure up against their neighbours to the south? According to the study, London came out on top with an average salary across all roles advertised and placed of £44,184 and of course while salaries are high, cost of living is also higher than the rest of the UK. The South East of England, encompassing Kent, Surrey and the Home Counties is not far behind at £39, 251, with the East of England, combining Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk, third at £41, 533. The economic pull of London has a profound effect on the neighbouring counties and prosperity there can, in part, be attributed to the close proximity to the capital. The East Midlands has the fastest growing economy outside of London and the South East, and has an average salary of £38, 212. There is still some catching up to do though as the West Midlands sits at £37,638. Of all the regions in the UK, Wales currently sits bottom of the pile with an average salary of £36, 278. This is offset however by cheaper cost of living. Scotland meanwhile benefits from having two major, economically strong cities among a relatively low populations and has an average of £36,009. Does a high salary equate to happiness? Are high paying regions more likely to provide work satisfaction? Is the pursuit of workplace happiness best achieved by seeking out the cities and regions which pay the best, or is it about finding a job you love? The relationship between money and happiness isn’t as straightforward as you might think. A partner study to the average salary analysis looked into data from the cabinet Office’s Wellbeing and Policy report and the relationship between salary vs happiness. The analysis, which looked at average salaries and life satisfaction ratings for 35-50 year olds, revealed a group of ‘happy outliers’ people on low salaries who are happier than others who earn significantly more. Fitness instructors, who take home an average of £10,378 per year, are actually happier than lawyers who earn an average of £75,399. Dental nurses, who earn an average of £15,024, were found to be happier than dentists who make an average of £53,567. School secretaries are actually happier than actuaries, even though they earn an average of £15,614 and £61,584 per year respectively. The survey also revealed that the clergy is the happiest outlying sector, followed closely by secretarial, education, agriculture, and administration. Salary isn’t the be-all and end-all of your well-being. Happiness at work it seems is influenced by the work that you do and how much satisfaction you derive from it.

Playlist - Fresh Start April

Playlist - Fresh Start April HAPPY APRIL 1st! April 1st of course is April Fools Day so hopefully some of you have some awesome pranks in store! Other than beginning this month in jest, I like to think of April as a fresh start month. Youve finished with the first quarter of the year, youve hopefully done your taxes (unless youre me and feel this need to do them 3 days before they are due which is April 15th by the way), and you likely want the weather to be warm enough so you can get rid of the coats and bring out the warm summer dresses. This month, our playlist consists of some fun throw backs for you to get that feeling of a fresh start that you might need in April. Here are few features from the playlist, but remember you can follow and listen to the entire playlist here. 1. OutKast So Fresh, So Clean Whatever happened to OutKast? I heard a rumor last year they would get back together so far, not true. Anyway, nothing says Im ready for a new start thats fabulous like OutKasts So Fresh, So Clean. You know its true. Now sing it with me,  Aint nobody dope as me, Im just so fresh, so clean. 2. Mirrors Justin Timberlake   I had to include a song from Justin Timberlake because well, who doesnt love JT? But I unfortunately just wasnt feeling Suit Tie. So I listened to a few songs and I am a little in love with  Mirrors. Sure the song is about having a  significant  other who is like your mirror and bla bla bla  (Sorry, single girl problems here). Anyway, the songs bridge says, Yesterday is a history, tomorrow is a mystery, remember that as you get your fresh start mentality this April. 3. Dont You Worry Child Swedish House Mafia It breaks my heart a little that this band has broken up. But they didnt go without leaving us this gem of a song. If March was a rough month, if April is looking bleak, hold on to the lyrics closely, Dont  you worry, dont you child, heavens got a plan for you. 4. A Whole New World Brad Kane Lea Salonga   Ill willingly admit that I am biased to the opinion that Aladdin is the greatest Disney movie ever. One day, I hope to write a 30-page paper defending this thesis. Till then, this April I encourage you to see life as an adventure and to use the beginning of a new month as a new sense of adventure. Make each day a whole new world. So friends, whats on your April playlist? And what will you be doing to get your fresh start this April? Dont forget you can enjoy the entire Fresh Start April Playlist here.

The Advancements in Graduate Recruitment in 2014 and Beyond

The Advancements in Graduate Recruitment in 2014 and Beyond 9 Flares 9 Flares Graduate recruitment…. a phrase most at university dread the sound of as the years of education are left behind and the first steps onto the career ladder are tentatively taken. Despite uncertain times in recent years, things are finally starting to look up for the UK recruitment industry as unemployment levels start to fall and people affected by the recession are slowly but surely getting back into work. With this, soon to be graduates readying themselves for the world of work should look on this prospect with fresh optimism, as the chances of finding a job are now more likely than for many in their position in recent years. Things are changing though, and the tried and trusted methods of recruitment are evolving in line with innovations in technology. This applies to both the graduate looking for work and the recruiter in the way they advertise positions, as leading graduate recruitment agency GradWeb explore below; Mobile Friendly Job Adverts Almost everyone has a mobile phone with access to the internet and more people than ever are making the most of it. With internet connections available pretty much anywhere, those looking for work aren’t restricted to when they can look, so it is vitally important that those recruiting for positions make sure their websites are mobile responsive to make it as easy as possible for potential employees to get the details they require. Whilst internet connection is available almost anywhere, a graduate looking for a role may have limited internet availability or bandwidth and will also be working from a smaller screen, so recruiters need to ensure all of the necessary information is easily accessible and can be taken on board without delay. Social Media Following on from the above point, social media is now and will continue to play a huge role in how positions are searched for and recruiters advertise. For the graduate looking for positions, posts on the likes of Twitter and Facebook from employers enable direct access to information on the roles available, taking away the need to search through traditional job sites with jobs that may simply not be applicable. When it comes to the recruiter, social media offers multiple benefits when advertising for new staff. You can get your job advert out to the masses through a simple update whilst also avoiding the costs associated with alternative forms of job advertising. There are some important considerations to make when advertising through social media though, as this post explains. What’s more, applicants for positions can be handpicked if you see a profile of interest on the likes of LinkedIn, whilst additional research can be easily undertaken on any applicants who have applied for the position you have available ahead of an interview. Video Interviewing Video interviewing is very much in its infancy and is important to note that it is not the same as a conference call. A video interview can act as the first interview, however avoids the need to actually meet up with the candidate for the role at that stage. For those who have expressed an interest in the advertised role, a series of questions can then be send through by the recruiter for the applicant to film themselves answering. For the recruiter, this avoids having to meet up with all candidates on the first occasion, especially if there has been significant interest registered. Furthermore, videos can be watched and reviewed as many times as is necessary and can also be distributed to others in the organisation to pass judgement ahead of making a decision on whether to invite them in or not. When it comes to the graduate applying for the role, this can remove some of the nervous tension that comes with what is likely to be the first proper interview ever undertaken and also enables it to be completed at a time which best suits; all in all making the first interview stage considerably less stressful. Gamification This really is a growing recruitment trend and one which will most certainly appeal to the modern graduate. Recruiters are attracting the interest of potential new employees by creating game-like scenarios in non-game context to determine key skills of individuals as well as developing a fun and exciting way of putting forward your interest in a role. There have been a number of examples of companies using this innovative gamification method of recruitment to great success and it seems like it is only going to become more popular in the years to come. Seen as an effective way of improving the efficiency of the whole recruitment process and almost hand picking the most suitable candidate based on the way they applied themselves in the gaming scenario, this truly is one of the most advanced methods of recruitment ever seen. Graduate recruitment is evolving, both for the graduate and the recruiter, with these advancements being just a few of many more that are set to take hold throughout 2014 and beyond. This post was written by Oliver Kyle in partnership with GradWeb; a recruitment agency tailoring graduates to their perfect first positions in the world of work.

Office Staple for Every Season White Knit Top [Banana Republic] - Cubicle Chic

Office Staple for Every Season White Knit Top [Banana Republic] - Cubicle Chic Office Staple for Every Season: White Knit Top [Banana Republic] Office fashion, Outfits October 10, 2015 0 CommentsA few close friends have noticed that lately I have been a tad obsessed with Banana Republic. Other than the renewed style and design lately, the only other thing I can attribute this to is seeing the series of collaborations between Wendy’s Lookbook and Banana Republic lately. If you haven’t seen them, you should! Or, maybe, just maybe, it has to do with me having turned 30 this year… In any event, I have my eyes on Banana Republic lately and I invite you office ladies to join in the chicness!I love the silhouette of this knit top. It’s called the Textured Sweater Tank from Banana Republic.  It weights quite heavy so it really accentuates my waistline in a flattering way. I have been reaching for this top and wearing it almost once a week in the past month. It’s starting to feel like my chic uniform! For this outfit I paired it with jeans from Topshop, and some more blue hues with some d’orsay heels from Madewell. Literal ly, this is what I’m in almost EVERYDAY in the office â€" a comfortable top and jeans â€" and I love it! I’ll admit to a little secret though. I keep a pair of spare flip-flops under my desk and slip out of these heels when I am slaving away in front of my desk. It’s my way of staying in heels 8 hours a day plus my 1.5 hour of commute! All Photography by Ngoc M NguyenSomething that enlightened me this week…If you’ve been following my Instagram, you may have heard me complain once or twice about how busy of a week I had at work. Despite all of it, I am finding some new found energy by reading a book a close friend/mentor at work had gifted me this week. It’s called Search Inside Yourself. I am currently reading the book and maybe I’ll share my thoughts here at some point!
